Professional whitening gives you a dramatic head start — but what you do in the following weeks decides how long that brightness lasts. Here are the five habits we recommend to every patient.

1. Follow the 48-hour “white diet”

Enamel is slightly more porous right after treatment. For two days, skip coffee, red wine, curry and berries. Think chicken, rice, pasta and plain yogurt.

2. Use a straw for dark drinks

Iced coffee and cola are less likely to stain when they bypass your front teeth. It is a small change with a big payoff.

“The best whitening result is the one you protect. A few simple habits can double how long it lasts.” — Dr. Elena Morris

3. Rinse after you eat

Swishing with water after meals clears pigments before they settle. Wait 30 minutes after acidic food before brushing.

4. Switch to a soft brush

Hard bristles and abrasive pastes can wear enamel, making teeth look more yellow over time. A soft brush and low-abrasion paste are kinder.

5. Keep up your cleanings

A professional polish every six months removes surface stains and keeps your smile camera-ready — and it's covered by most insurance plans.
